Dr Lluis Medir
Dr Lluís Medir Tejado. Assistant professor of Political Science at the University of Barcelona (UB). He holds a degree in Law (2004) and in Political Science (2006) both at the University of Barcelona (UB). After his graduation he spent two years in Toulouse (France) to complete a Master’s degree in Political Sociology (specialization in public policy) at the Institut d’Études Politiques (IEP) of the University of Toulouse, where between 2006 and 2008 he worked also as visiting professor (vacataire) and also worked in UB’s Spanish Policy Agendas Project. He holds a PhD in Political Science for the IEP Toulouse and the UB. His doctoral work (2013) focused on intergovernmental relations between national Education Departments and local governments in France and Catalonia to implement educational policies at the local level. His research is primarily focused on local governments’ institutional design and public policies at the local level, as well as on the gender gap of local politics.
He holds hands-on experience working with large datasets with a hierarchical structure, mainly containing both institutional and individual-level data. He has participated in several research projects involving large dataset management: either creating them and/or treating them. Indeed, most of the times, the database used to test his research questions are not unique, so he has expertise in data management: merge, fusion and adaptation of different datasets from different sources and formats. His works are empirically grounded.
He is a fluent speaker of Catalan, Spanish, French and English, and working notions of German and Italian. He has completed several pre- and post-doctoral visiting researcher stays: Fordham Law School (NYC, USA), Universidad de Santiago (Chile), Università degli Studi di Firenze (Italy). He holds relevant teaching experience in public policy and governance of public policy, either at national and local levels, for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
